Rock'n'roll is no way near dead, especially not if you're Johnny Borrell, lead singer of Razorlight and the new frontman of our AW19 Characterful Style campaign. Johnny rocks (sorry, we couldn't help it!) our new Chelsea boot CADE, perfect for performances with its cleated sole, because as Johnny says “On stage you just don’t want to slip over”.
Having grown up in Camden, Johnny, who has been on the British music scene for over 20 years now, splits his time between London and France - all while working on new music with Razorlight.
When it comes to style, Johnny, is a true indie boy at heart, and says, 'I try and buy second-hand because the planet’s being destroyed at the moment, so it’s kind of important to re-use things. Or I try and make sure anything that I wear is ethically produced, so without sweat shops. Those would be my only criteria; if I don’t fall over and if nobody’s in a sweat shop to make them, that would be my ideal.'
As for his inspiration, Johnny eschews celebrity influences for in favour of the man on the street, 'I think the person whose style I like the most is probably the the 16 year old kid somewhere who’s like doing what they want to do,' he says, 'They don’t care about the guys at the bus stop who want to beat them up for looking different, that’s the person that I admire, who’s sticking to it because they want to express themselves.'
