MARINA DIAMANDIS

This year Marina Diamandis is back and she's more confident than ever. Having dropped the 'and the diamonds,' from her name, she's released a new album, 'Love + Fear,' and she's embarking on a plastic free tour. With a bold and colourful sartorial style she's the perfect face for our Characterful Style AW19 campaign. Rocking our new crystallised rainbow Kensington and complimenting kitten heel boots.

“Characterful style is about dressing for yourself; dressing in a joyful way.”

If you could swap wardrobe’s with one person for a day, who would it be?

I had to swap wardrobes with somebody for a day it would be my friend Lizzie, who is an artist called ‘LPX’, she has like the wildest 70s wardrobe full of fake furs and PVC and red leather, so it would be her.

What’s the most extravagant fashion item you’ve ever bought?

I would say this leather cape I bought once, I think it was four grand and it was from Valentino. It actually started to come undone as soon as I bought it and I wore it twice in my life and then I just ended up giving it to my friend because he would wear it more than me.

How has your style changed over the years?

It’s changed quite a lot, in that I’ve become more of a minimal dresser. I think I used to over accessorise and play with way too many ideas in one outfit, so there’d be like 4 outfits in one, which made me look more than flamboyant. These days I’m much more simple, I like more comfortable clothing but one thing that’s remained the same is I still love colour and the way that I put different colours together is the same as I’ve been doing since I was like 15.

What’s inspired your recent music?

Minimalism and simplicity and nature, I suppose, a way of writing music in a really simple, natural way, that was the main inspiration, at least aesthetically; a lot of my photo shoots were black and white.

Tell us about your tour this year…

So, this year I’ve decided to do a ‘plastic free’ tour, which means that all of our water comes in cardboard boxes and we just try and lower our plastic consumption as much as possible. There’s probably plastic in my outfits, so I can’t rule it out totally but we’re doing what we can to make it plastic free.

QUICKFIRE:

What’s your favourite book?

At the moment it’s ‘Slow Days’ and it’s by Eve Babbits, an LA woman who was kind of like a cult figure in the 70s. I hugely recommend people to read her work because for some reason she didn't blow up at that time but now people are buying into her work again.

Favourite place on earth?

Can I list a few? My favourite places on earth are Japan, Greece and LA.

Favourite restaurant?

Roka, the sushi place on Charlotte Street.

Name one thing you can’t live without…

My cats.

What’s your most used emoji?

The crying laughing face.

Describe your ideal day off?

It would be taking a really long walk in London, then maybe having brunch with friends, going to vintage stores or a vintage market, very simple, going for cocktails and then in the evening going somewhere delicious to eat food.
