There’s a hopeful, ultra-feminine vibe to everything this summer (don’t you just love it when fashion does the opposite to politics?!), and that’s in no small part down to the colour that was the overwhelming favourite with designers on the catwalk for SS17: pink.
We’re not talking the saccharine pinks and frills of little girls’ party dresses though, because all things blush come with a heavy dose of sass this year. Think 80s-style combinations of fuchsia and black, powder pink embellished sneakers, and mules with the perspex block heels of dreams. Oh, and if you do want to do a girly bow, go for your life, guys! Just make it the biggest bow you can possibly find, like ’Evie’.
So what about the rest of your outfit? For a totally on-trend look, try what the fash-pack call ‘through colour’ - that’s wearing one colour entirely head-to-toe - and that includes your shoes, of course. We particularly love this idea with tailored pieces in bright cerise silk teamed with a pair of killer heels in the same hue.
Or if through colour and bright shades aren’t your thing, try pale rose-coloured accessories - nothing is easier to match with your favourite jeans and white T-shirt - or an all-black outfit finished with a punch of salmon on your feet. Remember, any shade goes this season...so long as it’s pink!
Pretty in pink
To tap into one of the other hottest trends for SS17 - the Eighties - with spiky stilettos in the hottest of hot pinks. Try a simple court elevated with a statement bow on the heel, or the ultimate shoe of the decade, a pixie boot, like ’Raglan’. Team with tailoring and denim, and clash with bright red.
For a more subtle pink vibe, hunt out bags and shoes in blush shades and tactile fabrics like velvet; they go with everything you already have in your wardrobe. Add a hint of fun with a motif bag, like this one sporting pineapples. What’s not to love about that?!
One for the tomboys
Just because you’re not mega feminine, doesn’t mean you can’t get on board with this trend (plenty of guys wear pink you know!). Try masculine styles like brogues and trainers in puce or coral, or bags in iridescent pink with a hint of blue.
