Trending: Luxe Textures

To us, nothing signals the arrival of autumn like an overload of sumptuous fabrics. Well, maybe that and a Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Now is the time to replace cottons and silks with luxurious velvet, tweed, brocade and leopard print – basically, all the things that make you feel ultra-decadent, even if you’re just popping to the shop for some milk. The AW17 catwalks were as opulent as ever, with everyone from Gucci to Erdem showing decadent fabrics. And we’re not just talking about the clothes - shoes and bags have had a lavish upgrade for the new season too. Meet the three hot textures to know…

Plush Velvet

While a velvet dress might make you feel like you’re off to a friend’s birthday party circa 1985, a velvet shoe or bag is a totally different ball game. There’s something about velvet accessories that give any outfit a unique twist, and their ability to elevate even the simplest of looks can’t be beaten. Fast becoming a fashion favourite, Kurt Geiger’s jewelled 'Velvet Kensington' is the ultimate day-to-night bag. Alex Steadman of The Frugality pairs it with printed dresses, while We Are Twinset’s Sarah Tankel-Ellis rocks hers with jeans and a white shirt.

On the shoe front, Miss KG’s 'Katy' loafers come in a whole spectrum of velvet hues and are perfect for off-duty. Kurt Geiger London’s chic 'Sooty' courts will take you from office to after work (just add slick tailoring) and Carvela Kurt Geiger’s pink 'Gigi' heels offer a fresh spin on the usual black and navy velvet offerings in one of this season’s hottest shades.

Classic Leopard

We’d be lost without leopard print – in fashion land it’s what’s referred to as a neutral, meaning that despite being a print, it works with everything. For the fashion brave among you, the ultimate leopard print wardrobe addition this autumn is Kurt Geiger London’s 'Vallence' OTK boots. The trick to pulling them off is to keep everything else pared back – think fuss-free dresses or a skinny jeans and roll-neck combo.

This season, we’re upping the luxe factor of go-to leopard with tactile faux fur textures. The Kurt Geiger London 'Leopard Mini Kensington' is the perfect 24/7 option while the 'Poppy Tote' takes the classic tote to the next level. To take on the chill in style, there’s a seriously snuggly scarf version. It looks great thrown over a chunky knit right now, and will transform your winter coat when it really gets cold.

Opulent Tweed & Brocade

Prada, Gucci, Rochas – the biggest names in the business sent dreamy brocade creations down the AW17 catwalks. A pair of jacquard flats translate the trend into real life, so make room in your shoe-drobe for KG Kurt Geiger’s 'Khloe' loafers. Our favourite thing about an opulent flat is that it can be worn with off-duty and evening looks alike – perfect if you can’t hack heels for more than an hour. When it comes to tweed, we’re not talking Country Casuals here. This season’s take is shot through with metallic strands for a thoroughly modern update. Kurt Geiger London’s 'Dream' boots reinvent the classic biker shape with tweed panels and a tulle bow. Let them stand out by wearing with jeans and a shearling jacket or try with a metallic midi skirt. For an arm candy fix, look no further than the 'Tweed Kensington'.
